About

Nadège Rolland is Senior Fellow for Political and Security Affairs at NBR, and a Nonresident Fellow at the Lowy Institute. Her research focuses mainly on China’s domestic, foreign and defence policy, grand strategy, and the changes in global dynamics resulting from the rise of China.

She is the author of the book China’s Eurasian Century? Political and Strategic Implications of the Belt and Road Initiative (2017) as well as the reports “China’s Vision for a New World Order” (2020) and “Commanding Ideas: Think Tanks as Platforms for Authoritarian Influence” (2021). Her articles and essays have appeared in a number of publications, including the Washington QuarterlyStrategic Asia, Politique Etrangère, Survival, the Diplomat, Foreign Affairs, the Wall Street Journal, and the Journal of Democracy.

Prior to joining the NBR, Nadège Rolland served for two decades as an analyst and Senior Advisor on Asian and Chinese strategic issues to the French Ministry of Defence, for which she has been awarded the Medal of Honor.

She holds a MA in China studies from the National Institute of Oriental Languages ​​and Civilizations and a MSc in strategic studies from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies. She is also a National Taiwan Normal University alumna.
